LANXESS Starts Production Line for Specialty Compounds in Germany

LANXESS announced the commission of a new thermoplastic specialty compound production line in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany. The company expects a boost of the facility’s production of high-performance compounds, complementing LANXESS already existing compounding lines.

LANXESS, a German specialty chemicals producer, announced they have commissioned a new thermoplastic specialty compound production line at its site in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany. “With this investment, we are responding in particular to the development of new forms of mobility such as electro-mobility, but also to trends in the electrical and electronic industry such as the Industry 4.0, which are leading to a growing demand for complex thermoplastic compounds,” said Dr. Michael Zobel, the company’s High Performance Materials Business Unit Head.

Having invested almost €7M, the new line is expected to boost the facility’s production of high-performance compounds, complementing LANXESS’ already existing compounding lines. These lines are designed for production of Durethan polyamide compounds and PBT compounds under the company’s Pocan brand. “The line is very well suited, for example, for our glass fibre-reinforced polyamides, which are used in the structural lightweight design of automobiles”, said Dr. Stefanie Nickel, LANXESS High Performance Materials business unit compounding head. “We also see great potential in flame-retardant compounds, for example for components in electric driver”.

In addition, the new line will also be suitable for production of compounds with high mineral content. The company currently operates in China, India, Brazil and the US. LANXESS plans to open another compounding plant in Changzhou, China.
