Connected Clinical Trial Online Platform Launches

Innovative “Software-as-a-Service” platform designed to improve patient engagement and trial efficiency.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), an IT company based in Mumbai recently announced the launch of a clinical trials patient engagement/medication management platform Connected Clinical Trials. The Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering, said the company “will significantly transform patient engagement in clinical trials and improve the efficiency and accountability of the clinical supply process.”

Part of the company’s Advanced Drug Development (ADD) suite of solutions, the CCT platform offers users a range of cloud-based clinical services including clinical data management, metadata management, pharmacovigilance, and a service it calls data analytics and insights. According to TCS, the ADD is powered by a cognitive engine called “Decision Fabric” that facilitates the automation of complex business processes. “ADD leverages the best of cloud architecture and intuitive user experience design in compliance with ‘good clinical practice’ quality guidelines (GCP) and privacy regulations,” said the release.

"TCS' Connected Clinical Trials will enable life sciences companies to harness digital technologies to engage with patients more effectively during clinical trials and significantly improve adherence to medical dosage during those trials," said Debashis Ghosh, President - Life Sciences, Healthcare, Government, and Energy Business Group.

Janssen Research & Development, LLC collaborated with TCS to build-out the company’s Connected Clinical Trials platform, as part of the Janssen integrated Smart Trial and Engagement Platform. The platform said TCS, has also been tested in a live set-up at the company’s user experience labs with global patient and site advisory boards. These proof-of-concept trials were conducted in collaboration with the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP), an independent non-profit organization dedicated to educating and informing the public and patients about clinical research.

The CCT platform includes four modules, including CCT Tracking to prevent dispensing errors, CCT Communication for real-time patient interaction, CCT Label, which puts out electronic drug labels in preferred languages and CCT Adherence, which verifies dose compliance.
