New Jersey: a state where so many pharma, biologics and medical devices companies have a presence, not to mention the largest concentration of scientists and engineers in the US. There was perhaps no more fitting crescendo to The Road to 50 States.

The intrepid team on The Road to 50 States was almost at the end of its triumphant journey but there was one more interview in the penultimate state of Pennsylvania on Day 49, but only that one interview.

Not too many states have yielded four interviews or more, and on Day 48, near the culmination of The Road to 50 States, Pennsylvania was added to that select list.

Delaware is the most popular state for people to register LLCs. It's the second smallest state but the sixth most densely populated. It was famously the first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States, yet it will be one of the last on The Road to 50 States.

Maryland was rich in meetings and content for the team on The Road to 50 States. This meant the team spent the majority of the day in The Old Line State, with a quick dip into the nation's capital for one meeting in DC and a late run through Delaware to their overnight stop in New Jersey.

West Virginia and Virginia were on the agenda on Day 45 of The Road to 50 States and that meant mountains – the team were hoping for mountains more insight into the next big thing in pharma.

Day 44 meant that there was only seven days left on The Road to 50 States, and the crew was definitely feeling like they were on the home stretch. They would continue to move north towards home after a fairly static previous day because of the number of interviews.

Research Triangle is the largest research park in the United States, anchored as it is by the academic research institutions of North Carolina State, Duke University, and UNC Chapel Hill. It forms an area that has been known as The Triangle since the 1950s.

Charleston, South Carolina is a great, historic port on the Atlantic coast where the Ashley, Cooper and Wando rivers converge. The ideas were flowing yet again when the team met up with the latest interviewees on The Road to 50 States.

Among Atlanta's diverse economy is a thriving motion picture and television production industry, which has garnered the nickname, Hollywood of the South. As it turns out, we came here to film too.

Florida was certainly not The Sunshine State on the morning of Day 40 on The Road to 50 States. The team woke and headed to Delray Beach in the pouring rain. It may not have been a beach day, but it's always a good day to talk about the next wave of pharma innovation.

Florida is The Sunshine State and that's one of the reasons it attracts so many retirees, focused on enjoying the twilight years of their lives. Coincidentally, the two discussions that took place on Day 39 of The Road to 50 States were all about longevity.

Birmingham in Alabama was named for its industrial counterpart in the midlands of England. And this happens to be where Nigel was born, but Day 38 on The Road to 50 States represented a different Birmingham for him.

Tennessee's nickname of The Volunteer State dates back to the War of 1812 and Tennesseans have evidently always been up for a battle and helping others. This was evident on Day 37 of The Road to 50 States with four interviewees talking about how the next big thing in pharma could be taking the battle to cancer.

It is an unofficial nickname but 'Show Me State' appears on the Missouri license plates, and on Day 36 the team was of a mind to be introduced to further insight into innovation and the next big thing in pharma.

Arkansas used to be nicknamed The Land of Opportunity and the team on the Road to 50 States certainly tried to take advantage, as they always do. As is often the case, they spent their time in the state capital, as it's often where interviews are situated.

If Mississippi is known for cotton, it is also synonymous with the river that forms its border and its etymology, and the people that fostered the nickname, The Hospitality State.

Having taken a couple of days to come through Texas, the team was happy to know that they had a far smaller distance to travel on Day 33 to take them from New Orleans to Jackson, Mississippi. This allowed them most of the day to enjoy the sights and sounds of The Big Easy.

The team on The Road to 50 States recognized some of the large distances required to complete their endeavor on Day 32, as they toiled with another long day in the car, pounding the miles.

The team divided and conquered Texas on Day 31. They began together in Dallas, setting off at sunrise after an early breakfast. A significant trip was required to San Antonio for a visit with Scorpion Biological Services. The Tesla wasn't going to handle that with charging in the timeframe, so George and Adama would head straight for the overnight stop in College Station.

As the day count turned to 30, the state under the spotlight was Oklahoma. It took it's name from the history of its people, but this trip is about looking to the future and there has been growth in the biotech sector in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, despite the state long being dominated by oil and agriculture.

It would be easier to do The Road to 50 States if more big cities straddled state lines like Kansas City. The team began Day 29 on the Kansas side and paid a visit to TriRx Pharmaceutical Services in Shawnee.

Not saying there's anything remotely corny about The Road to 50 States, but the team felt right at home in Nebraska. They received a very warm welcome from folk in The Cornhusker State, and they were all ears for more insight on the next big thing in pharma.

Just as the morning before, Day 27 began with some drama. Emilee had lost her wallet the day before, and as if that weren't enough, the first order of the day for Albert and Adama was to take her to the Denver Airport as she was scheduled to be heading back to NYC.

Day 26 on The Road to 50 States began in New Mexico and was going to involve the cars charging to Albuquerque and then all the way to Denver, Colorado, demanding around seven hours of driving. The problem was, the Tesla had charging problems and traffic the night before.

Things get truly heated in Phoenix, known as the Valley of the Sun in the desert region of Arizona, but in fact it was a relaxing, enjoyable time for the team. It's the most populous state capital in the nation and the fifth most populated city, so no trouble finding friends.

Waking up in Vegas was a bit of a hangover for the team on The Road to 50 States, but only because Nigel locking the keys in the car at a gas station the night before had cost them around three hours of sleep.

Sun, palm trees, biotechnology. It can only mean one thing – Southern California. Yes, the Road to 50 States team was halfway through its time in the Golden State, and Day 23 would see them go from Los Angeles to San Diego in their quest to complete three more interviews with Life Science leaders.

Day 22 dawned in Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco, and immediately Albert and Adama realized they had a charging issue in the Tesla. Somebody left the heat on. Lucky for them, there was a charger nearby, because the team was off on a tour of Fog City and their first interview of the day.

While Nigel and Lucas were swanning off to Alaska and Hawaii, the rest of the crew were taking the cars from Washington State to Oregon, where the other two would rejoin in Portland. Emilee and Adama had done some karaoke en route, which may or may not have had something to do with a small collision.

Day 20 on The Road to 50 States is the second of the unusual breakout ones as the cars remain in Washington and alternative transport is the order of the day. Nigel and Lucas flew directly from Anchorage, Alaska to Honolulu on the island of Oahu. So, they woke to a tropical paradise.

Day 19 on The Road to 50 States is one of two unusual ones in the scope of the trip. Nigel and Lucas split off from the rest of the team and also left the cars – and car cleaning, painting, gas stops, and breadth of banter – behind in the Lower 48.

After a pleasant and gentle start to the day, the team needed to head to Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA), where Nigel and Lucas would catch a flight to Anchorage, Alaska to cover the next State.

Just one state on Day 17 of The Road to 50 States, and Washington broke the stereotype by delivering further glorious weather for the team, which is always nice. Less time on the road today but no less than four interviews to enjoy, including a special visit outside of the city with Gustavo Mahler, Managing Partner of Dynamk Capital.

After looping in Utah the day before, Day 16 would be a return to a three-State day for the team on The Road to 50 States. They left Salt Lake early and after a brief look at some planes at Hill Aerospace Museum, they flew up I-84 to Idaho, where they would spend the bulk of the day in State Capital, Boise.

After thousands of miles in recent days on The Road to 50 States, canvasing the opinions of life science leaders on the next big thing in pharma, the team needed an injection of something. And on the morning of Day 15, it arrived in the form of Emilee Kudla joining the road crew.

The team got to catch up on some sleep in Laramie, Wyoming, after two arduous days of distance in the mountain states. With less far to travel, a consequently shorter day, and having stopped in the town that is home to their next interviewee, they had a more relaxed morning charging the Tesla and cleaning both cars.

After 17 hours of travel the day before, the team rose at 4.30am after only a couple of hours' sleep to do it all over again. Day 13 was Montana and Wyoming, and it would indeed be a virtual do-over with nearly 700 miles on the cards that would take nearly 18 hours.

Day 12 was a Sunday on The Road to 50 States, but it was no day of rest for the team, as they racked up easily their longest daily mileage so far and total travel time of 17 hours, 35 minutes. That's what happens when you hit the big country.

Day 11 dawned in Madison, Wisconsin, where The Road to 50 States would ultimately head west again, but only after a couple of morning interviews.

Day 10 harbored a significant moment on The Road to 50 States, as the team crossed the Mississippi River for the first time. We say first time because in a trip going in circles around all States, it's inevitable it will be more than once.

The team on the Road to 50 States was reunited for the start of Day 9 after they missed each other between Michigan and Kentucky. Today's trek from Louisville to Chicago is full of clients and TN staffers alike.

Michigan is the Great Lakes State but it's also the Wolverine State, and the thought of this solitary animal was apt on Day 8 as the two cars got separated for most of the day.

Ohio is the Buckeye State, but it was red eyes for the team on The Road to 50 States. Their 400-mile drive from their adventures in New York State, combined with a necessary stop to charge the Tesla, saw them arrive in Painesville around 5:00 am.

Green mountains is the etymology of Vermont, and it was a long mountain drive for the team on Day 6 as they racked up the States again, heading through New York and ending in Ohio in the deep dark hours of the next morning.

Maine houses the end of the Appalachian Trail, but the trail is only just getting going for the team on The Road to 50 States. After today, the crew will begin its long journey west.

The State motto of New Hampshire is 'Live Free Or Die' and it's a noble declaration of liberty, but The Road to 50 States is all about asking what's the next big thing in pharma, and most people's answers are things devoted to delaying the meeting with the maker.

Massachusetts is synonymous with biopharma and biotech innovation. So the team on spent a whole day in Boston on Day 3, covering a measly 51 miles in the cars. But they covered a ton of ground with five companies at the cutting edge of life sciences.

The Constitution State connected the team to New England and The Road to 50 States really got going on Day 2, with the team able to cross off Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts by sundown.

The Empire State. Starting point on Wednesday morning for The Road to 50 States. With lots to navigate on this first day, predominantly in and around New York City, not to mention the infamous Triborough traffic, the team made an early start heading to Brooklyn.
