Day 17: An Action-Packed Final Day in Brisbane

An Afternoon with Thermo Fisher and BioCina

Day 17 marked the final chapter of Road to the Max: Australia, and it was one of our busiest days yet. We kicked off the day with a visit to Thermo Fisher’s Brisbane facility, bringing back memories from over a decade ago when our team helped launch the DSM Biologics site, before its acquisition by Patheon and eventually Thermo Fisher. Kym Baker, General Manager, guided us through a tour of the facility and offered valuable insights into the government programs and clinical trial landscape that continue to attract innovators to Australia’s thriving biotech scene. Next, we hit the road again to meet with Mark Womack, CEO of BioCina, for a fascinating discussion about the speed and efficiency that Australia’s universities and pharma infrastructure offer to its growing biotech ecosystem. It was a fitting conversation for our final day, as we reflected on how much Australia’s life sciences sector has evolved.

The Final Leg of Road to the Max: Australia

We wrapped up the day at the Resolian facility, where we interviewed Jason Wang and Harpreet Johal-Meredith to cap off the trip with even more insight into Australia’s biotech landscape. With that, the journey officially came to a close. All that’s left now is a well-earned champagne shower to celebrate. But the story doesn’t end here! We’ve got a bonus episode in store tomorrow, and over the next four weeks, we’ll be releasing 32 full interviews from the trip. Stay tuned—there’s plenty more to come from the Road to the Max: Australia!
