10.1 Study Methodology
10.1.1 We performed a comprehensive search to find all firms worldwide that manufacture protein biologics on a contract basis using microbial fermentation. Most have expertise with E. coli, and we have listed alternate microbial expertise, such as yeast and fungal systems. Most firms clearly indicate if their installed reactors are for mammalian or microbial cultures, but where there is doubt, we included the contractors in both the mammalian and microbial biologics reports. We have noted stainless or single-use reactors where the information is available. Although the language is sometimes casual, we have used throughout the designation SUF (single-use fermenter) to clarify the capacity listed is set up for microbial systems.
10.1.2 To create this report, we reached out to every firm listed in this profile section. We spoke with some on numerous occasions to create the rest of the report, but many were simply contacted by us with a request to confirm the profile presented here.
