This is a Tucson suburb that is appropriately dubbed the ‘Tech Mecca” of southern Arizona, and is emerging as a regional center for the biotech industry. Its Innovation Park is home to a number of medical and biotech campuses.
We’re also in the western foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. They call this region the Sun Corridor for obvious reasons, though Tucson averages nearly 12 inches of rain a year, but still qualifies as a desert climate due to high evapotranspiration — or net water loss. In summer, daytime temperatures exceed 100º F with low humidity and clear skies, which leads to skin cancer rates 3x higher than northern states, so our crew will have the SPF-75 on!
We’d arrived in Atlanta on Monday evening to a beautiful sunset. On Tuesday morning, we’d arranged a late entry interview at Emory University, but we still took time to head over to the Centennial Olympic Park for some photos and interaction with quite a large crowd. We also paid a visit to the CNN building, even though we’ve been breaking all our own #RoadtoBIO news at www.pharmasalmanac.com/blog and
@thatsnicellc on the journey to #BIO2017. We got out of Atlanta early afternoon to continue west, making a 'pit' stop for some real pit BBQ at Rusty's in Leeds. The then full-bellied crew hit the road toward Mississippi, where we stayed overnight in Jackson.
We’ll check back in tomorrow morning from — you guessed it — Texas #RoadtoBIO
updates on our journey toward #BIO2017.
