We're three days into the Road to BIO, but for some reason it feels like it's really kicking off today. After spending the first two days navigating around Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, we are finally breaking out of the northeastern corner and making our way south.
This morning we’re heading toward the nation’s capital, Washington DC, on The Road to BIO. We’re planning a stop at a Lamborghini dealer in Virginia later to get a health check for the car. Meanwhile, we’re taking in some of the district’s landmarks including The White House, Capitol, and Washington Monument. As well as being surrounded by plenty of biopharm in neighboring States, Washington is where the lobbying happens and it’s home to many associations, including the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO).
After kicking off #RoadtoBIO in Boston on Thursday morning, our progress began its long path southwest with a sponsor company visit in Connecticut, which highlighted its state commitment to innovation by ranking fourth nationally for patents per 1,000 people in 2016.
Our last stop on Day 1 was a welcome evening visit to the Tea & Sympathy restaurant in New York City, who kindly fed our hungry road trip crew a British fish’n’chip supper from their authentic takeout, #asaltandbattery. It also gave us the opportunity for a first roving interview on healthcare in the US. Our sincere thanks to our good friends and owners of @teaandsympathy, Nicky Perry and Sean Kavanagh-Dowsett.
We'll check back in this afternoon from Virginia with more #RoadtoBIO updates on our journey toward #BIO2017.
