Dr. Donald Loveday, Customer Applications Director, Pharma and Medical, discusses how Celanese is overcoming bioavailability challenges by combining innovative drug delivery technologies with proprietary EVA excipients. Watch the full interview.

Drug Delivery Systems and Material Science

Celanese provides market-ready product solutions necessary to develop drug delivery systems with high sensitivity, dose accuracy, and dosage duration in a wide range of applications. Applying our full breadth of chemistry, technology and global business expertise, Celanese is uniquely positioned to partner with our customers across the supply chain — from developing state-of-the-art drug delivery systems to natural sweeteners that formulate unique taste profiles for patients, we progressively strive to create new value for customers and meet patient needs.

Engineering Drug Delivery Devices

Preventing dose noncompliance and controlling bioavailability is increasingly becoming the job of engineered drug delivery technologies, which Celanese has been innovating for years. Our VitalDose® controlled release ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) polymer excipients are commercialized for a range of implantable, long-acting dosage forms, and our advanced engineering materials are used in next-generation drug delivery devices, such as combination inhalers, dose monitoring injection pens, and other simple to administer solutions.

Materials Solutions and Biologics

At Celanese, we have a range of materials that are validated and used in biologics development and commercial products today. Of particular note are our VitalDose® EVA excipients, which can be blended with therapeutic agents and implanted as delivery vehicles for the controlled release of both conventional and biologic APIs. This versatile excipient can be used in a wide range of innovative dosage forms, and is currently used to treat a range of conditions.

Regulatory Environment and Compliance

Celanese has been in business for over 100 years, and in that time, we’ve established a solid track record with regulators around the world. Our pharmaceutical excipients are FDA listed. We are a global technology and specialty materials company with a global footprint that reaches from Dallas to Amsterdam to Shanghai, that can assist with streamlining the development, approval and commercialization process, no matter the scale, scope, or site of the project.

Partnering and Development

Customers sometimes feel they have a steep learning curve to climb to achieve the delivery innovation their new formulation might require. With Celanese as a development partner, customers gain the support of a long-standing company with a proven track record of advancing breakthrough drug delivery solutions — from concept through commercial reality — to fit the individual needs of our global customers.
