Moving away from the metropolises of the northeast, we skirt the Seven Bends State Park, the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest, and the famous Blue Ridge Mountains. Following the mountains, we trace down to the very bottom corner of Virginia and sneak over the state line this evening into Bristol, Tennessee. In terms of its contribution to life sciences, Virginia’s biopharmaceutical sector creates roughly 11,000 jobs and fuels approximately $1 billion in payroll each year.
The second day of #RoadtoBIO kicked off at the Tappan Zee Bridge in New York. Why here? Well firstly, it put us on the path from our overnight in New York into New Jersey — our route south and location of our next sponsor interview. However, it also served as a backdrop for an interview with BioVectra, which is headquartered on Prince Edward Island, Canada across the famous Confederation Bridge. Entering New Jersey towards its northerly border on the Hudson, we made our way to the southern part of the state for our next interview. Known as the ‘Medicine Chest of the World’, New Jersey is famously home to 14 of the world’s 20 largest pharmaceutical companies.
We’ll check back in tomorrow morning from Tennessee with more #RoadtoBIO updates on our journey toward #BIO2017.
